Our Student Handbook provides a blueprint for success at Lamad Academy and contains important policies and guidelines that students and families should be familiar with. We hope that all community members abide by these rules and expectations so that we may provide a wonderful educational experience for all of our students. Here is a breakdown of some of the key highlights in our Student Handbook on how we support our students to meet Lamad’s academic, civic, and social standards.

High standards for attendance and punctuality

Lamad Academy believes in efficiency and that everything worth doing, is worth doing well. To get the most out of education, students must attend school daily. We expect every student to arrive at school in-person or online with a positive attitude, ready to learn.

Members and guests of our school community are to be given respect and courtesy at all times. Our students are expected to work diligently in all school activities. Tardiness and excessive lateness to class are disruptions to our learning environment and are not tolerated. School appointments are firm obligations. Students must report to all classes on time, be ready to work when the bell rings, and be prepared with their laptops and headphones.

Dress code and grooming

Our dress code reflects a school climate that supports learning, growth, neatness, dignity, and good hygiene. All students are expected to adhere to the Uniform Dress Code from their arrival on campus until they depart for the day. Boys and girls wear the following attire on a daily basis, to promote a neat and ready-to-learn environment:

  1. Blue Button-Down Shirt with academy logo

  2. Navy/red/green/yellow striped tie

  3. Khaki twill pants

  4. Navy/Wine V-neck cardigan sweater with academy logo

  5. Navy blue socks and black shoes

  6. Gym uniform of light blue academy logo t-shirt, navy nylon gym shorts, navy sweatshirts and sweatpants with academy logo (worn at gym class)

Jeans, hoodies, hats, caps, sunglasses, etc. are not part of the uniform dress code and will not be accepted.

Classroom regulations and homework

Each classroom teacher issues guidelines and regulations relating to their classroom operations, grading practices, and general conduct. At Lamad Academy, students are safe and well-supervised.

Students receive report cards at the end of each quarter. The passing mark in all subject areas is 70% and grades are based on classwork, tests, participation, special reports, and homework.

Homework assignments constructively utilize out-of-class time; parents are encouraged to show interest and support for their students’ homework activities. In addition to homework assignments, students should make every effort to participate in at least one of Lamad’s many extra-curricular activities; some of these activities include athletics, peer mediation, and peer tutoring. We believe student activities enrich academic life at LACS.

Our students participate in one hour of academic intervention from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday as part of our plan to check-in and support our students and build the bridge to higher potential learning.

Additionally, our curriculum features “Saturday Academy,” a mandatory learning time that takes place two Saturdays per month from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. These bi-monthly sessions allow for students to engage in tutoring time to overcome academic deficits, address current academic challenges, or pursue projects at an accelerated pace.

Detention/discipline

We believe social and emotional development is as important as academic development. Our goal is for students to help each other be successful and make good decisions. We manage conflicts through discussions and foster a professional, safe, and respectful school environment. Our teachers and guidance counselors offer full support to our students and assist in making the educational process as effective as possible.

Our Guidance Services are handled by our social worker and they help students with their academic, social, and emotional needs. These services help ensure a smooth transition from elementary to middles school and on to high school.

If the school believes that a student’s conduct in the school community or elsewhere has been harmful to others or Lamad’s reputation, we reserve the right to take appropriate action, including disciplinary measures.

Should disciplinary concerns arise at Lamad, they are dealt with in a direct, expeditious fashion, and with full transparency. Any breach of integrity or disturbance to our positive learning environment will not be tolerated; this includes disruption of instruction, forgery, cheating, theft, vandalism, and fighting.

Remote learning

The pandemic has changed our learning landscape to include remote learning. Students are expected to adhere to the policies and guidelines stipulated in our Student Handbook when learning virtually. Students must comply with all work requirements in a timely fashion and teachers will track daily student login student class interaction and assignment requirements.

Live group chat sessions and video conferencing are integral components of our remote learning process and help improve the connectedness of remote teaching; students are required to adhere to all school policies specifically pertaining to Online Learning in our Student Handbook. Online bullying is strictly prohibited.
