A closer look at our values and curriculum

Lamad Academy is dedicated to providing middle-school students in Brooklyn and other communities throughout New York City a successful head start. Our model and approach focus on academic excellence, personal growth, and developing a life-long passion for learning.

Here we will review our charter school’s values and curriculum so you can decide if Lamad Academy is the right home for your child’s future.

Our educational model

The Lamad academic model is co-taught by two English Language Arts teachers and two Mathematics teachers that work together for grades six-eight. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum is integrated into all of our subjects.

“This co-teaching model, particularly within the critical courses of English and math, facilitates a greater level of differentiated instruction and small group instruction in a class of heterogeneous learners. It accomplishes this by reducing class size and allowing the co-teachers to work together in a variety of forms.”

Our educational approach

The Lamad Teaching Methodology is rooted in a two-pronged philosophy: “To Teach” and “To Learn.” Our school motto is that “the teacher has not taught unless the student has learned.”

We believe in developing life-long learners who strive for self-discovery and personal growth. This method demands effective group interaction, where students are guided to uncover the truth for themselves.

School culture

Lamad Academy has established a school environment of high expectations for our students, both academically and personally. Our scholars benefit from a culture that resembles an intimate family. As part of this community, we encourage scholars to succeed and take risks, while ensuring they feel safe and valued.

Academics

Lamad Academy teaches a well-rounded curriculum that encompasses all aspects of a student’s educational journey. Our students take courses in:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Writing

  • Engineering & Technology

  • Science

  • Social Studies

  • Health

  • Physical Education

STEM integration in all subjects

Our unique approach to education integrates STEM curriculum into all subjects. This allows our scholars to make natural and meaningful connections to the world around them. It also prepares our students for future careers in high-demand industries that involve science, technology, engineering, and math.

Data-driven instruction

Our leaders and teachers focus on data to inform us of the best practices for instruction in both homogenous and heterogeneous student groupings. In this way, we are able to deliver our rigorous, standards-based curriculum. We do this by constantly assessing and monitoring the progress of our student scholars.

Our mission

Lamad Academy Charter School will prepare and inspire students to successfully and enthusiastically pursue advanced mathematics and science education in their secondary and post-secondary careers. , LACS will graduate a cadre of future talent by immersing its students in an academically rigorous, standards-based curriculum with a principal emphasis on mathematics and science, as American economic and national security is dependent on the development of a scientifically-trained and technically-skilled workforce.

Our vision

We will establish and maintain a culture that supports learning and achievement. For LACS, a strong school culture means more than just a safe and orderly environment, and it is one of the more important elements that drive the success or failure of a school. A community that fosters a positive learning environment, a culture of inquiry and thought, and a climate of passion and excitement among students and educators, are the characteristics that our school culture will cultivate. These traits will be underpinned by a set of shared norms, values, and vision that focuses all of our stakeholders’ attention on what is most important while motivating them to work hard towards our common purpose.
